NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The No. 32-ranked Carleton College secured a 9-0 victory over crosstown foe St. Olaf on Tuesday. The Knights improved to 11-2 on the season and 5-0 in MIAC play.
Carleton raced out to the early lead by winning the three doubles matches. Kristina Conrad (Sr./Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) and Madeline Prins (Jr./Pacific Palisades, Calif./Palisades Charter) improved to 9-1 since the beginning of February as the nationally-ranked duo posted an 8-4 win atop the lineup. Taylor Thulson (Fy./Louisville, Colo./Niwot) and Faith Yim (So./Orange, Calif./Villa Park) won for the third consecutive time that they teamed up. This time it resulted in an 8-5 victory at the second slot. Sonya Romanenko (Fy./San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) and Elizabeth Yim (So./Orange, Calif./Villa Park) are now 5-1 since joining forces in late March as they registered an 8-4
Upon moving to singles, the Knights won all six matches in straight sets. Prins extended her career-best win streak to 11 matches with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at the fourth spot. Romanenko also owns a double-digit win streak after posting a 6-4, 6-4 result at first singles for her 10th consecutive victory. Jeanny Zhang (Fy./Guangzhou, China/Dwight School) boosted her overall record to 10-1 with a 6-3, 6-0 win at the second slot.
UP NEXT FOR THE KNIGHTS
After winning the last three matches by a combined 26-1 score, Carleton will face stiffer competition in its next two matches. The Knights will host No. 40 Bethel University on Sunday, April 14 and No. 35 Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday, April 20. The Bethel contest will now be played at Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville, Minn.
