NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Playing for the first time on the recently re-named Pat Lamb Tennis Courts, the Carleton College women’s tennis celebrated with a 9-0 triumph over visiting Macalester College. With the victory, the Knights clinched at least a share of their second straight MIAC regular-season title and their fourth conference championships over the last six seasons.
Carleton (14-4, 9-0 MIAC) will hit the road to face University of St. Thomas (14-1, 8-1 MIAC) in the regular-season finale on Sunday, April 30. Both teams have a lot at stake. A Knights’ victory would complete an undefeated conference schedule and give Carleton the outright championship and the top seed in next week’s MIAC Playoffs. The Tommies, meanwhile, will be looking to drop the Knights into a three-way tie with Gustavus Adolphus (17-7, 9-1 MIAC) atop the standings. Those three programs ended up as tri-champions last spring.
In Saturday’s match versus Macalester, Danielle Vasiliev (Jr./Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevenson) was perfect on the day as she did not drop a game atop the lineup for singles (6-0, 6-0) and doubles (8-0). The singles win was her sixth over the last seven matches. In doubles, she teamed with Caitlin Shea (Sr./Joliet, Ill./Joliet Township West), who also notched a 7-5, 6-0 win at third singles.
Kristina Conrad (So./Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong), Alana Danieu (Jr./East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora), and Madeline Prins (Fy./Pacific Palisades, Calif./Palisades Charter) also secured wins in both singles and doubles.
Conrad improved to 15-1 in singles this year with her 6-0, 6-0 win at the fourth slot. She paired with Danieu—who posted a 6-4, 6-0 singles victory—for the duo’s seventh consecutive, this one by an 8-1 tally. Prins prevailed 6-1, 6-2 at the fifth singles spot and combined with Caitlin Eichten (Sr./Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) for another 8-1 victory in doubles.
Zoe Park (Fy./Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) added the other Carleton triumph, racing to a 6-1, 6-0 result at No. 2 singles.
