NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The No. 38-ranked Carleton College women’s tennis team handily defeated Luther College, by an 8-1 margin on Saturday afternoon. The Knights swept all six singles matches in straight sets en route to the decisive team victory over the Norse, who claimed the Iowa Conference championship during the fall portion of the 2016-17 campaign.

The quartet of Danielle Vasiliev (Jr./Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevenson), Caitlin Shea (Sr./Joliet, Ill./Joliet Township West), Kristina Conrad (So./Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong), and Alana Danieu (Jr./East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) secured victories in both singles and doubles action.

The match began with singles, and the Knights (9-4) controlled play from the beginning. Conrad prevailed 6-3, 7-5 at fourth singles, but Carleton limited the Norse to only nine combined games won in the other five matches.

Vasiliev and Shea picked up their third straight triumph at first doubles, this one an 8-4 tally, while the tandem of Conrad and Danieu secured an 8-2 victory at the third slot.

Carleton returns to MIAC action and hosts College of Saint Benedict on Sunday, April 9. Due to wet weather in the forecast, that match has been shifted indoors at Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville, Minn. and will now have a 2:30 p.m. start time.
