REDLANDS, Calif. – The Carleton College women’s tennis team won a trio of three-set singles matches but saw host No. 28-ranked University of Redlands prevail by a 5-4 margin in the team competition. The No. 37-ranked Knights (6-4) dropped their third consecutive match, each setback coming against another nationally-ranked opponent.

Redlands grabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles, with the Carleton point secured with an 8-4 victory for the tandem of  Danielle Vasiliev (Jr./Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevenson) and Caitlin Shea (Sr./Joliet, Ill./Joliet Township West) at the second spot in the lineup.

In singles, Iman Qureshi (Fy./Lahore, Pakistan/Lahore Grammar School), Zoe Park (Fy./Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest), and Kristina Conrad (So./Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) each overcame a first-set defeat to capture the victory.

Qureshi rallied for a 3-6, 7-6, 10-6 super tiebreaker win at second singles. Three of Park’s last six victories have come in a third set or super tiebreaker. She shifted the momentum after a poor opening set and ran away with a 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 triumph at third singles. Conrad bounced back after absorbing her first defeat of the season in yesterday’s match, this time coming out on top by a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 tally.

Carleton has one match remaining on its spring break trip to Southern California as the Knights play Colby College on Thursday, March 23 at 11:30 a.m. PDT. The Mules are ranked No. 16 in the northeast region.
