CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Each of the eight members of the Carleton College women’s tennis team won in either singles or doubles—on in the case of Zoe Park (Fy./Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest), both singles and doubles—as the Knights defeated Kalamazoo College, another regionally-ranked opponent, by a 7-2 margin in a match played at Coe College.
Carleton (3-1) is ranked No. 38 in the nation and No. 11 in the central region, while Kalamazoo (0-4) was listed at No. 17 in the region.
The Knights jumped out to a quick lead in the team competition as Park and Alana Danieu (Jr./East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) won 8-3 at third doubles before Danielle Vasiliev (Jr./Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevenson) and Madeline Prins (Fy./Pacific Palisades, Calif./Palisades Charter) added an 8-4 triumph at second doubles.
The Hornets got team points back with wins at first doubles and first singles, but straight-set victories by Caitlin Shea (Sr./Joliet, Ill./Joliet Township West) and Iman Qureshi (Fy./Lahore, Pakistan/Lahore Grammar School) at fourth and second singles, respectively, put the Knights on the cusp of the win.
Park clinched the match for Carleton when she rallied from a set down and prevailed 4-6, 6-2, 10-8 at third singles. Kristina Conrad (So./Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) and Caitlin Eichten (Sr./Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) added two more straight-set wins to round out the scoring.
Carleton will face Coe College, tied for No. 20 in the region, on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 1:00 p.m. A link to the Kohawks’ live video webcast is available via Knights Online.
