WINONA, Minn. – Behind contributions from every member of the roster, the Carleton College women’s tennis team opened its 2017 season with a 9-0 triumph over host Saint Mary’s University on Sunday.

Caitlin Shea (Sr./Joliet, Ill./Joliet Township West) and Danielle Vasiliev (Jr./Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevenson) notched a decisive 8-2 victory at first doubles, and the pairing of Madeline Prins (Fy./Pacific Palisades, Calif./Palisades Charter) and Alana Danieu (Jr./East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) was even more dominant in posting an 8-1 result at the third slot.

Kristina Conrad (So./Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) and Iman Qureshi (Fy./Lahore, Pakistan/Lahore Grammar School) had a tougher time dispatching of their opponents at second doubles, but the duo eventually prevailed by a 9-7 margin.

The Knights (1-0, 1-0 MIAC) cruised to the six straight-set victories in singles as Qureshi, Zoe Park (Fy./Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest), Danieu, Conrad, Caitlin Eichten (Sr./Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata), and Prins combined for a 72-7 edge in game scores.

Carleton’s next match will be against Hamline University on Thursday, Feb. 9. That competition will be held at Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville, Minn. and begins at 6:30 p.m.
