WHITE BEAR TOWNSHIP, Minn. — The Carleton women's golf team opened play at the September Showdown on Saturday, recording an opening-round score of 28-over-par 316 at Oneka Ridge Golf Course. The Knights sit in sixth place out of seven teams following the first 18 holes of competition.

St. Catherine University leads the team standings after posting a four-over-par round of 292, holding a nine-stroke lead over second-place Macalester College (+13). Bethel University (+21) sits in third place. Carleton holds a five-shot cushion over seventh-place College of Saint Benedict (+33).

First-year Cindy Yuan spearheaded the effort for the Knights with a dominant performance, carding a two-under-par 70 to finish the day tied for second place overall. The Danville, Calif., native collected five birdies on the day, including three on a two-under 35 on the front nine before turning in an even-par 35 on the back to post the lowest round of her young collegiate career. Yuan, who sits just one shot off the lead set by St. Catherine's Caylin Cantwell (-3), is tied with Bethel's Sophie Brantner for second on the individual leaderboard.

Junior Anna Lee also delivered a strong opening round for Carleton, turning in a one-over-par 73 to land in a tie for seventh place, giving the Knights two golfers inside the top 10. Lee nearly went without a blemish on Saturday, coming in with an even-par 35 with nine straight pars on the back nine. The front contained a birdie and two bogeys to total 15 pars in her opening round.

First-year Angela Yu recorded an 8-over-par 80 to finish tied for 23rd overall, while classmate Sarah Han placed 44th after carding a 21-over-par 93. Junior Charlotte Darras made her season debut, rounding out the lineup for the Knights, finishing 45th overall with a 23-over-par 95.

Carleton will be back in action again tomorrow morning when the Knights compete in the final round of the September Showdown at Faribault Golf Club. Carleton's first tee time is set for 10am.
