ST. PETER, Minn. – Playing for the first time in nearly two weeks due to a series of postponements due to wet weather, the Carleton College softball team dropped both ends of its conference-opening doubleheader at Gustavus Adolphus College. The Knights lost game one by an 8-3 tally and fell in game two, 6-0.
Game 1 — Gustavus 8, Carleton 3
The Knights (10-8, 0-2 MIAC) opened the scoring when
Emily Vogel drew a bases-loaded walk in the top of the first, but the Gusties (11-9, 4-0 MIAC) batted around in the bottom of the frame, pushing three runs across.
The hosts added two more runs in the third inning to extend their lead to 5-1. Carleton got one of those runs back during its next turn at bat as Vogel doubled and scored on
Natasha Paez's groundout in the top of the fourth.
After Gustavus plated another pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth,
Gloria Hronek singled and scored on
Jade Thach's triple to right field in the fifth.
