DAVENPORT, Fla. – The Carleton College baseball team put 14 men on base, but could not score any of them in an 8-0 loss to Williams College.
The Ephs (4-4) tallied a run in the top of the first thanks to an RBI triple by Marcus Burrell II. Carleton (2-9) led off the second with consecutive singles, but both runners were stranded after lefty hurler Michael Amendola struck out a trio of Knights.
Burrell knocked in another run in the third, and Williams made it 3-0 after a run scored on a double play ball. Carleton rookie starter
Ryan Kessner then threw zeroes in the fourth and fifth frames. The Knights loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the fifth inning but could not get a run home. Dave Mosrie's two-run double made it 5-0 Ephs in the sixth.
The NESCAC squad capitalized on a pair of errors to add three more runs in the ninth. Carleton put runners in scoring position twice more, but could not cash in, leaving a dozen men on base during the game.
Kessner threw 6.0 workmanlike innings, scattering eight hits and allowing five runs.
Will Schnepf tossed 2.0 clean stanzas, allowing one hit and punching out two.
Eli Feldman made his first collegiate pitching appearance and struck out one in his inning.
Aiden Bender reached in three of four plate appearances, carding his first career hit and earning two walks while adding a diving play in left field.
Nathan Barnhart drew a pair of walks and a hit-by-pitch to reach in three of five trips to the box.

Carleton wraps up its Spring Break trip to Florida with a tilt against Oberlin College at 2:30 p.m. EDT/1:30 p.m. CDT on Wednesday, Mar. 25. The game will take place in Auburndale, Fla., at Lake Myrtle Park Field No. 6.
