AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Carleton College baseball team got on the board in the waning innings but could not catch up to Oberlin College. The Knights dropped their final Spring Break contest, losing 15-5 (7 inn.).
The Yeomen (10-7-1) drew first blood with a Daniel Krabill solo homer to right in the second. The Ohioans hit four doubles in the third inning to add four runs.
Carleton (2-10) got on the board in the fourth as
Tyler Vandersall led off with a triple and came across the plate on
Wilson Taraday's groundout.
Oberlin scored twice more in the fourth and tallied another four-spot in the fifth. Taraday registered another RBI in the sixth, singling to left to bring
Will Schnepf home from second. The Yeomen posted four more in the sixth, with the help of four two walks and two hit batters.
The Knights made a late effort, with
Andrew Sellers walking with one out in the seventh, and
Nathan Barnhart,
Sam Chutkow, and Schnepf knocking consecutive singles, with Sellers coming around on the Schnepf hit. Vandersall got plunked to push Barnhart across, and
Luke Lawson walked to force in Chutkow. With the bases still loaded, Carleton lined into a game-ending double play to halt the rally.
Barnhart singled, walked twice, and scored in four plate appearances. Schnepf had a 2-for-4 day at the plate, carding a run and an RBI. Taraday drove in two runs in a 1-for-3 performance.
Reece Wellsandt went 2-for-3, extending his on-base streak to nine games. Wellsandt has reached in every game he has started.
