WINTER HAVEN, Fla. –
Adam Rubin slugged his first career home run to make it close in the seventh, but the Carleton College baseball team dropped a 7-3 decision against Augustana College on Monday.
Through the first two innings, Carleton (2-8) left two runners in scoring position, and Augustana (13-4) stranded four. The Knights broke the deadlock in the third when
Tyler Vandersall doubled in
Andrew Sellers, who had reached on an error.
Zach Quimby knocked a ground-rule double to left for Augustana in the bottom of the third, scoring a pair of runs to give the Vikings a 2-1 lead. The Illinois club added three runs in the third thanks to three singles and an error.
The teams exchanged zeroes until the seventh, when Rubin drilled his two-run round-tripper to left field to make it a 5-3 game. The Vikings scraped across runs in the bottom of the seventh and eighth on sacrifice flies, and Carleton was unable to repeat Sunday's late rally.
Rubin notched his second straight multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with the four-bagger.
Ryan Chang finished 3-for-4.
Jackson Corcoran started and took the loss, pitching 4.0 innings, conceding four earned runs, and striking out five.
Dan Avillo followed with 2.0 scoreless frames, fanning two.
Luke Reisig pitched a career-long 2.0 innings, giving up two hard-earned runs.
