BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Carleton College junior Patrick Smith was named the MIAC Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week for Feb. 9-15. This is his first career conference weekly award.
 
Smith averaged 8.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals as the Carleton post played a big factor in the Knights' 2-0 week that included a victory at No. 7-ranked Gustavus and concluded with clinching a playoff berth with a win over Bethel.
 
He scored a career-best 13 points—including his first two collegiate 3-pointers—in the win at Gustavus, but more importantly tied for the game-high with nine rebounds as the Knights finished plus-16 on the boards. In Saturday's victory, he starred in every facet as he grabbed eight rebounds and pilfered a career-best six steals—the most by a Knight this year—as he added 10 points and tied his career high with four assists.
 
Carleton heads to rival St Olaf College for the 3:00 p.m. game on Saturday, Feb. 21.
