Geivett kicks his way to MIAC Special Teams Player of the Week award

FARMINGTON, Minn. - First-year kicker and punter Matt Geivett played a large part in Carleton's 28-21 victory over St. Scholastica on Saturday, and his performance earned him his first career Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Football Special Teams Player of the Week award.

Geivett averaged 46.7 yards per punt on six punts, helping Carleton win the field-position battle on a windy Saturday in Northfield. Four of those boots landed inside the 20-yard line, with two of them downed inside the 10-yard line. He had two punts over 50 yards (67 and 56 yards). His punting average from the contest (46.7 yards/punt) is the best by a MIAC punter in a game this season (min. 4 punts in the game), and his longest punt traveled 67 yards, second-longest by a MIAC punter this season (by 1 yard). Geivett was also a perfect 4-for-4 on extra points and had two touchbacks on his five kickoffs.

Geivett leads the conference in 50-yard punts with five, and in punts landing inside the opponent 20 with 11. His net punting average (accounting for returns) is 35.4 yards, 3rd-best in the MIAC.

Carleton football takes on Hamline University on Saturday, Oct. 17 in St. Paul. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
