Fast starts to both halves lead Knights to 3-0 win at Macalester

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Carleton College women's soccer team scored early in both halves and secured a 3-0 win at Macalester College. Lauren Caldwell, Lola Feurer, and Kathryn Kresse scored for the Knights.

It took a little over three minutes for the Knights (6-1-2, 2-0-1 MIAC) to grab the lead. Lily Shure advanced the ball up the right wing before finding Caldwell on the edge of the box. The latter fired a shot across goal into the back of the net to put the Knights 1–0 up. It was Caldwell's second goal of the season and the 12th of her career.

Kresse nearly doubled the lead in the 16th minute when her shot eluded Macalester goal keeper Lily Salazar but struck the left post and bounced away.

Forced to settle for a 1-0 score at intermission, Carleton found its way back onto the scoresheet two minutes after intermission.

Ashlyn Haigh delivered a pass from midfield toward Feurer making a run toward the Macalester box. The Scots' goalkeeper Lily Salazar came well off her line to challenge for the ball, but Feurer got the first touch and maneuvered around the keeper before slotting her second goal of the season into the middle of the now open net.

Eight minutes later, Carleton once again deposited the ball into the back of Macalester's net. Salazar redirected Caldwell's shot from the right side of goal, but Kresse pounced on the rebound for her sixth goal of the season. It was also the 31st tally of her career, moving Kresse into sole possession of second place on Carleton's all-time scoring list (see chart below).

Carleton's goalkeeper Avery Trapp had a strong game. She made four saves in notching her 19th career clean sheet, good for third in recorded program history (see chart below). Trapp's toughest save came in the 70th minute, when a steal by the Scots' Annelise McGee led to a one-on-one opportunity, Trapp was perfectly positioned to parry the shot away.

The Knights finished with a 17-6 edge in total shots and a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal. Carleton held a 6-2 margin in corner kicks.
