BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Senior shortstop
Bryanna Schaffer of the Carleton College softball program was named to the All-Conference First Team as the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) coaches handed out awards for the 2025 campaign. Sophomore outfielder
Megan Smith and sophomore pitcher
Rachel Block earned All-MIAC Honorable Mention.
This is the third time Schaffer has garnered All-Conference recognition, becoming the eighth player in program history to do that (see chart below). She received All-MIAC Honorable Mention in 2023 and was first-team All-Conference last spring.
This year, she led the Knights in nearly every offensive category as she hit .356, with a .406 on-base percentage and a .585 slugging percentage. She slugged 15 doubles (third-most in team history and second in the MIAC) along with a career-high four home runs. Schaffer scored 23 runs and notched 22 RBI. During the season, Schaffer reset Carleton career records for games played (149), games started (149), at bats (478), hits (186), doubles (42), and RBI (102). She is also top-10 in recorded program history for career total bases (263, 2nd); runs scored (100, 3rd); slugging percentage (.550, 4th); batting average (.389, 6th); home runs (7, 6th); on-base percentage (.424, 7th); and triples (7, t-9th).
Smith started slow in non-conference play but rounded into excellent form against MIAC opponents to hit .352, reach base at a .415 clip, knock four doubles and score 12 runs in conference contests. The Knights' centerfielder swiped a team-high 11 bases on the season. One of only three Carleton players to start every contest this year, she reached base safely in 17 of 22 MIAC contests while playing error-free defense. Smith was also an All-MIAC honoree last season.
Block was a workhorse in the circle, throwing 120.2 innings (sixth-most among MIAC pitchers) over a MIAC-leading 28 appearances. Block worked to a 3.02 ERA and a 9-9 record, and tied for the conference lead with two saves. The right-hander struck out 63 batters, 10th-most in the league. She finished her campaign on a tear, authoring four straight scoreless appearances over 13.0 innings. Block also spent time at the plate, carding 11 hits and eight RBI.
