BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced that four Carleton players were honored in its postseason awards on Tuesday afternoon. The end-of-season awards are nominated and voted on by the league's head coaches after evaluating player performance in conference contests.
Senior
Luke Harris and sophomore
Sam Koelling each earned All-Conference distinction, while senior
Spencer Goetz earned Honorable Mention status for the second consecutive year. First-year
Matt Drake was named the conference's Rookie of the Year. Additionally, Harris and Koelling were each named to the All-Playoff Team.
Harris earns All-Conference recognition for the third consecutive season after winning the league's scoring title with 306 points in 16 conference games for a 19.1 points per game average. The senior scored 538 points on the year to give him a career total of 1,800 and place him fourth on Carleton's all-time scoring list. The reigning Offensive Player of the Year shot 46.7-percent from the floor and 40.2-percent from the three-point line on his way to a second consecutive season with over 500 points. He also finished the year with 75 assists for a career total of 327, which places him fifth in Carleton history.
Koelling, last year's MIAC Rookie of the Year, followed up a stellar rookie campaign with an even better sophomore season. The Ann Arbor, Mich., native averaged 12.9 points and 6.6 rebounds per game while shooting 50.4-percent from the floor and a 41.7-percent from three-point range. His field goal percentage ranked in the top 10 among MIAC players, as did his 6.6 rebound average. In addition to his offensive growth, Koelling came one of the team's best defenders, finishing in the top five of the MIAC with 25 blocked shots on the year.
Goetz earns his second straight Honorable Mention honor after scoring a career-best 225 points for a 9.4 per game average. An all-around player, Goetz also averaged 5.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. Both his assist and steal average ranked second in the MIAC, while his rebound average ranks in the top 20. A staple of the Carleton lineup over the past four years, Goetz finishes his career with 75 starts and leaves his mark on the program as one of the most versatile players in Knights history finishing sixth in steals (153), tied for eighth in field goal percentage (.539), and 10th in assists (280) in the Carleton record books.
Drake splashed on to the scene in his debut season, earning him Rookie of the Year honors. The Lakeville, Minn., native started all 28 games and played an average of 31.5 minutes per contest. That mark ranks 10th in the league and tops among first-year players. He also averaged 11.3 points per game to lead first-years. Drake tallied 17 games with double-figure scoring including a career-high 21 points at Bethel in mid-January. He also racked up 54 assists to lead all first-year players in the MIAC.
In addition to the season-long awards, the league also announced the All-Playoff Team.
