Knights drop pair to start 2025 season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MANKATO, Minn. – The Carleton College softball team dropped its first two games of the 2025 campaign, falling 6-0 to Bethany Lutheran College and 4-3 to Nebraska Wesleyan University in non-conference play.

Game 1 — Bethany Lutheran 6, Carleton 0

Grace Colburn reached base all three times via two hits and a walk, but Carleton (0-2) was unable to push across any runs despite having runners aboard in each of the first five frames.

The Knights loaded the bases with one out in the third inning but came up empty, and Bethany Lutheran (2-1) opened the scoring in the bottom of the frame. Bryn Weidner's two-run ground rule double was the third of three consecutive hits for the Vikings, who later coaxed a pair of two-out bases loaded walks to force home two more tallies.

The other runs scored in the bottom of the sixth as Bethany Lutheran pulled off a double steal and added an RBI bunt single.

Sydney Trentman (0-1) absorbed the loss, permitting four runs with four strikeouts over 2.2 innings. Emily Meyer (2-0) went the distance for Bethany Lutheran, scattering five hits and four walks with eight strikeouts.

Game 2 — Nebraska Wesleyan 4, Carleton 3

The Knights grabbed the early lead as Megan Smith opened the game with a single to right center, advanced on a sac bunt and groundout, and scored on Adriana Wiggins' single. The Prairie Wolves (3-1) immediately answered with two runs in the bottom of the first.

After Carleton stranded runners in scoring position in the second and third frames, Smith smacked a two-run two-out double in the top of the fourth to push Carleton back in front, 3-2.

Nebraska Wesleyan benefitted from a pair of errors to score the tying and go-ahead runs in the bottom of the sixth.

The Knights had the tying run on third base when the game's final out was recorded.

Elise Warnek (2-1) went the distance for Nebraska Wesleyan, yielding three runs on four hits and six walks with six strikeouts. Rachel Block (0-1) took the loss, after permitting four runs (three earned) over 6.0 innings in the circle.
