Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Early goal, stellar defense lead Knights to 1-0 win at St. Catherine

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Lauren Caldwell's early goal and stellar play by goalkeeper Avery Trapp lifted the Carleton College women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory at St. Catherine University. The contest featured the programs that shared the 2024 MIAC regular-season title.

Carleton (8-1-2, 4-0-1 MIAC) extended its win streak to five games, while snapping a five-game streak for St. Catherine (9-2-0, 4-1-0 MIAC), which received votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches top-25 poll.

St. Kate's had the first scoring chance of the contest on Ayah Makled's well-struck shot from the left wing in the opening minute. Trapp was equal to the task, diving to her left to parry away the ball.

Less than two minutes later, Carleton took advantage of a Wildcat giveaway to grab the lead. The ball was played back to St. Catherine goalkeeper Brianna Valdez, who looked to switch fields. However, Caldwell was well positioned and intercepted the pass, took a touch, and uncorked a right-footed screamer from the top of the box into the left side of the goal. It was her third score of the season and the 13th of her career.

Trapp was credited with a season-best 10 saves, the second-highest total of her career behind a 13-stop effort in a 0-0 (2OT) performance versus Loras in the NCAA Tournament.

No play was bigger for Trapp than her stop of a St. Kate's penalty kick in the 46th minute, diving to her left to reject the attempt by Jaidyn Richter.

St. Catherine finished with a 15-7 edge in shot attempts and a 5-4 margin in corner kicks.

This was the Trapp's 32nd career victory in goal, establishing a new program record. It was also the 20th clean sheet of her collegiate career.
