Knights pick up 2-0 win at UW-Platteville

PLATTEVILLE, Minn. – The Carleton College women's soccer team got back in the win column with a 2-0 non-conference victory at University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

"Tonight was a great team win against a strong regional opponent playing our brand of soccer," said Carleton head coach Jessica Mueller. "While we're happy with the result, we turn the page immediately and start preparing for our next game on Saturday."

Carleton (13-2-2) entered the day ranked No. 22 in the NCAA Power Index (NPI) and finished with a 16-9 advantage in shots and a 9-0 edge in corner kicks. It was one of the those set pieces which resulted in the opening goal.

Senior defender Sam Gotch notched her third tally of the season, scoring an Olimpico goal in the 15th minute. Her perfectly struck corner kick sailed over the out-stretched arms of Pioneers' goalkeeper Sophia Vriesema and off the inside of the back post. It was Gotch's fourth career goal.

Carleton doubled its lead in the 57th minute, capping a possession on which seven Knights touched the ball with a goal by Lauren Caldwell. A cross from the left wing by Claire Burbery was interrupted but not controlled by the goalkeeper. Caldwell knocked home the rebound for her fifth goal of the season and 15th of her career. It was Burbery's 12th career assist, tied for eight in program annals.

The Knights nearly tacked on another goal in the 90th minute, but Rian Fitzpatrick's header was saved at the line.

Carleton goalie Avery Trapp made five stops in recording her eighth solo clean sheet of season and 25th of her career, tied for second most in program history and only one behind Mikayla Coulombe's '15 team record. This was the 11th shutout by the Knights this season, tied for the fourth-highest single-season figure in program history. (see charts below)

Up Next for the Knights
Before entering postseason play next week, Carleton concludes the regular season by hosting College of St. Scholastica for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff on Saturday, Nov. 1.
