BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Carleton College men's cross country team began the 2024 season by taking fifth place at the Montana State Bobcat Twilight. Roy Llewellyn led the Knights as he finished 11th overall.
 
Montana State, ranked No. 25 in the USTFCCCA's preseason poll for NCAA Division I squads, cruised to the team title after seeing Bobcats post the top six individual finishes for a team score of 15 points. Fellow D-I programs University of Montana (79 points) and Boise State (80 points) placed second and third at the nine-team competition.

Carroll College (Mont.), ranked No. 15 in the NAIA preseason poll totaled 93 points in earning fourth place, while Carleton -- which is listed at No. 7 in the North Region preseason rankings -- tallied 125 points.

Llewellyn crossed the line at 15:17.2, while Gabe Nichols placed 25th at 15:43.9. Newcomer Travis Brown finished 41st at 16:24.4, and Josh Meier was 48th at 16:45.9. Another rookie, Kyle Thompson, rounded out the scoring for the Knights by taking 50th place at 16:48.4

Carleton will continue its preseason training before returning to Northfield, where the Knights will next race at the St. Olaf Invitational to be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21.
