ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Carleton College men's cross country team competed at the Interregional Invitational hosted by Augustana College. The Knights finished 18th in the 36-team field that included 14 nationally-ranked programs and 13 additional regionally-ranked programs.
Carleton totaled 611 points, to finish ahead of nine regionally-ranked teams as well as No. 30-ranked Otterbein. The Knights were in 29th place at the 1-mile mark but moved up to 23rd with 1.5 miles to go and improved an additional five spots in the standings over the final 2,400 meters.
Senior
Gabe Nichols led the way for the Knights in the gold race with his season-best time of 25:07.09, good for 36th place. Senior
Indy Lyness finished 50th with a season-best time of 25:22.7. First-year
Gus Schafer was next across the line with a personal-best time of 26:24.9, good for 171st in the 351-runner field. Sophomore
Ravi Achar edged senior
Roy Llewellyn for 217th place, 26:53.8 to 26:54.3.
Carleton also had five runners entered in the open 8000-meter race. The Knights quintet finished sixth out of 14 teams in that race. Leading the way was
Simon Chambers-Trubatch, who clocked in at 27:16.4 to finished in seventh place.
Emerson Lange was 16th at 27:31.5,
Kyle Thompson took 35th at 28:06.4,
Spencer Olson was 48th at 28:25.1, and
Max Whalen place 73rd at 29:06.1.
Up Next for the Knights
Carleton will compete at the MIAC Championships, to be held at the Highland 9 Cross Country Trailhead in St. Paul on Saturday, Nov. 1. The men's race begins at 11:00 a.m.
