NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The No. 21-ranked Carleton College women's tennis team maintained its position atop the conference standings with a 9-0 victory over cross-town rival St. Olaf College.
Carleton (12-0, 7-0 MIAC) has clinched a berth in next month's MIAC Playoffs and now owns a 50-3 record over the last three seasons. St. Olaf drops to 9-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
Amelia Asfaw and
Mary Hose, the No. 8-ranked duo in the Central Region, rallied from a 2-1 deficit to claim an 8-3 victory atop the doubles lineup.
Mariam Nechiporuk and
Ingrid Smith followed with an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles, with
Kat Smiricinschi and
Ryann Witter prevailing by the same score at the third slot to improve to 8-0 as a tandem this season.
Hose improved to 10-1 in singles this season after quickly securing a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 2 singles. Witter followed with a 6-1, 6-1 result at the sixth slot to secure the team victory and lift her season ledger to 7-0.
Kiley Pickens bettered her singles record this year to a team-best 12-0 thanks to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles.
Asfaw, the No. 10-ranked player in the Central Region, lifted her 2024 singles record to 8-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 at the top spot.
Nechiporuk picked up her third consecutive victory, prevailing 6-2, 6-3 at the third spot in the lineup.
Miriam Shteyman completed the sweep of the Oles, taking down Fiona O'Flaherty—who entered the day 10-0 on the season—by a 6-3, 6-1 marginat No. 4 singles.
