No. 21 Knights keep rolling with 9-0 win over Macalester

MINNEAPOLIS – The No. 21-ranked Carleton College women's tennis team made it 13 consecutive victories to start the season with a 9-0 triumph over Macalester College. The match was played at the Baseline Tennis Center at the University of Minnesota.
 
The Knights improved to 8-0 in conference play, extending their win streak against MIAC opponents to 25 matches (regular season and playoff) dating back to April 16, 2022. Carleton is now 51-3 overall spanning the last three seasons, with each setback coming against a nationally-ranked opponent, including two losses to teams ranked No. 1 team in the country.
 
Amelia Asfaw and Mary Hose, the No. 8-ranked duo in the Central Region, notched their eighth consecutive factory as they breezed to an 8-1 victory atop the doubles lineup. Zoe Rose and Amanda Black prevailed by the same score at No. 3 doubles. Ryann Witter and Kat Smiricinschi improved to a team-best 9-0 as a tandem with their 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles.
 
The Knights won all six singles matches in straight sets.
 
Asfaw, ranked No. 10 in the region, moved to 9-0 on the year with her 6-2, 6-1 triumph atop the singles lineup. Hose added a 6-0, 6-2 result at the second slot, securing her 11th victory of the campaign. Meanwhile, Mariam Nechiporuk picked up the win at No. 3 singles by a 6-4, 6-0 tally.
 
Miriam Shteyman contributed a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the fourth slot, and Kiley Pickens pushed her singles record to a team-best 13-0 with a 6-4, 6-0 triumph. Ingrid Smith blanked her opponent at No. 6 singles, 6-0 and 6-0.
 
Up Next for the Knights
Carleton visits No. 35 Gustavus Adolphus College for an 11:00 a.m. match on Saturday, April 20. These two programs have combined to win the MIAC regular-season title in 38 of the first 41 seasons of conference play, and they are the only teams still undefeated in MIAC action this season.
