MINNEAPOLIS – The Carleton College women's swimming & diving team climbed back into fourth place on Day 3 of the MIAC Championships.
Gustavus Adolphus holds a narrow lead over Macalester (409.5 to 407) atop the eight-team field. Defending champion St. Catherine is third at 394 points followed by Carleton (326.5), St. Olaf (323), Saint Benedict (254), Concordia (118), and Hamline (107).
Racing began with the 400-yard individual medley, and
Jenna Drummond secured all-conference honorable mention with her fifth-place finish after touching the wall at 4:45.33.
Stephanie Baranov placed seventh at 4:48.27.
Aubrey Tran and
Abby Marks added to the scoring, taking 13th and 14th, respectively, with times of 4:57.77 and 4:58.70.
Four Knights also scored points in the 100-yard butterfly, as Carleton place seventh, 11th, 13th, and 14th.
Grace Hou covered the distance in 1:00.11, while
Caroline Crampton posted a time of 1:00.99.
Isabelle Riley (1:01.40) and
Nora Wooten (1:01.71) rounded out the quartet.
The 200-freestyle also saw four Knights contribute to the Carleton's score. The first to finish was
Lily Wong, completing the event in 1:58.77 to earn 11th place.
Zoe Morton came in 12th place with a time of 1:59.21, with
Eleanor Hubbard taking 13th place at 2:00.12. Lastly,
Bryn Ashland came in 16th place with a time of 2:02.14.
Emma Yao had the Knights' top finish so far at this meet, earning All-MIAC recognition after her runner-up result in the 100-yard breaststroke. She reached the wall in 1:06.40.
Daya Tucker and Ashland finished in 13th and 16th places, respectively, with times of 1:09.83 and 1:11.32.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Hou took third place, earning her another All-MIAC accolade. She clocked a time of 57.58. Wong placed fifth to earn all-conference honorable mention, reaching the wall in 58.52.
Ava Shaker aided the team score by coming in 15th place with a time of 1:03.33.
Carleton concluded the session with a fifth-place result in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The quartet of Morton, Tucker, Yao, and Hubbard finished the event in 1:38.44.
Up Next for the Knights
The MIAC Championships conclude on Saturday, Feb. 17 with the 1650-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, 3-meter diving, and 400-yard freestyle relay.
