Box Score DULUTH, Minn. - The Carleton College football team traveled to Duluth and earned a 35-14 conference victory over College of Saint Scholastica.
Jack Curtis shined, throwing 36-of-47 for 383 yards and five touchdowns, four of which went to
Tyler Dimond.
The Knights opened up the scoring on a 12-play, 56-yard drive that ended in a one-yard touchdown pass from Curtis to Dimond to give the visiting Knights a 7-0 lead with 5:06 to play in the first.
The Knights' defense answered with a fourth down stop, giving the offense great field position starting at their own 40-yard line. Five plays later, Curtis threw a 44-yard bomb to Dimond in the endzone giving the Knights an early 14-0 lead with 31 seconds to play in the first quarter.
The Saints got on the board five minutes into the second quarter with a one yard rush up the middle by Nick Schlender, as the home team Saints cut the Knights' lead in half, 14-7 with 10:01 to play in the first half.
The next drive for the Knights ended in the third touchdown for the Curtis to Dimond connection, this time from four yards out, for a 21-7 score.
On the Saints' opening drive of the second half, the Knights' defense again turned them over on downs near midfield. Five plays later, Dimond caught his fourth touchdown of the game, this time on a 26-yard pass from Curtis.
Carleton began their second drive of the third quarter on their own one yard line following a Saints' punt that pinned them deep in their own territory. The Knights' offense marched 99 yards down the field, capped off by a 16-yard touchdown pass from Curtis to
Ntense Obono, giving the Knights a sizable 35-7 advantage over the home team. The Saints were able to tack on one more touchdown before the end score of 35-14.
Dimond had a career day as he finished with four touchdowns and 11 receptions, both career highs, and a season-high 152 receiving yards. The four touchdown catches are the most by a Carleton receiver since Chris Gardner's performance in the 2007 season-opener. This is only the third time in 142-year history of Carleton football that a receiver had more than 10 receptions, 150 yards, and at least four touchdowns in a game, the most recent being when Jim Bradford accomplished the feat against Gustavus on Oct 20, 1990, when he had 10 catches for 285 yards and five touchdowns.
Obono hauled in six receptions for 47 yards and a touchdown, and
Rye Storrs had five catches for 53 yards.
On the defensive end,
Owen Detmer and
Jacob Ventura led the way with nine tackles each.
