NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College women's swimming & diving team celebrated Senior Day with a 164-133 dual meet victory over cross-town rival St. Olaf College.
Before the first event of the day, the Knights celebrated the three seniors on the women's roster—
Aleia Johson,
Brenna Russell, and
Sammi Sheridan—as well as the six seniors on the men's team.
"Our dual meet with St Olaf has always been the best way for our squads to close out the (dual meet) season," said Carleton head coach
Andy Clark. "I love the camaraderie and respect that is jointly held between our two programs, and that makes for an even more special meet. With both programs celebrating their seniors, too, there is always a great atmosphere. The St. Olaf teams always step up and deliver strong efforts and performances, so we knew we would need great efforts from everyone today, and I felt like both Carleton teams excelled in this area.
"Of course, our seniors provided inspiration in their swimming and diving and led the way for our team to win both meets. What a satisfying way to end their dual meet careers. and the entire coaching staff is so grateful for the chance to work with each of them over the last four years. They have been the heart and soul of this team, and we will dearly miss them."
The Knights won six of the races. They found success in the day's first race, the 200-yard medley relay, where the combination of
Grace Hou,
Emma Yao,
Zoe Morton, and
Daya Tucker won the event with a time of 1:52.03.
The Knights next victory came in the 100-yard backstroke, with Hou reaching the wall with a time of 1:00.67.
Carleton dominated the 200-yard butterfly, with Knights claiming the top five spots.
Caroline Crampton won the event with a time of 2:21.35, with
Aubrey Tran coming in second at 2:23.04.
Isabelle Riley completed the sweep of the podium with a time of 2:28.19.
Morton claimed first place in the 50-yard freestyle, with her time of 25.12. She also prevailed in the 100-yard freestyle race, finishing in 54.81.
The Knights controlled the 100-yard butterfly race as Carleton swimmers grabbed the top seven results. Hou won her second individual event and posted a time of 1:02.40.
Isabelle Riley was the runner up at 1:04.56, while Crampton and
Nora Wooten tying for third at 1:05.12.
The 1-meter diving was broken up into 5-dive and 6-dive portions. Russell posted an 11-dive score of 427.85, securing her second of two qualifying scores needed to secure a spot at the NCAA Regional diving meet.
Hailey Westrup had an 11-dive score of 434.80, earning her first qualifying score.
