Knights cruise to 9-0 win over Hamline

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College women's tennis team opened the 2023-24 campaign with a 9-0 triumph over Hamline University. The Knights are now 32-1 in regular-season matches over the last three seasons.

With several members of the roster participating in off-campus study programs during fall term, the Carleton coaches elected to pair a veteran with a newcomer in all three doubles matches. Senior Mary Hose and rookie Ryann Winter notched an 8-1 triumph at No. 1 doubles, junior Miriam Shteyman and first-year Kiley Pickens secured an 8-2 victory at the second slot, while junior Piper Brown and Kat Smiricinschi paired for an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.

The Knights dropped only four total games in sweeping the six singles matches. Hose, Shteyman, Smiricinschi, and Brown blanked their opponents 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1, No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Pickers won 6-1, 6-0 at the third slot, and Kathryn Burton added a 6-2, 6-1 win at the sixth spot.
