GREENSBORO, N.C. — Carleton College diver Brenna Russell (Jr./Andover, Minn./Andover) opened her first trip to the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships by competing in 3-meter diving. She concluded the day in 28th place with a score of 329.10.
 
"Brenna finished strong," said Carleton diving coach Gabe Kortuem. "Overall, it was an okay day. We're looking to build on the last two rounds as we plan ahead for the 1-meter contest on Friday."
 
After a disappointing score on her ninth dive (5132D - Forward 1 1/2 Somersault 1 Twist Free), Russell bounced back with her two highest-scoring dives of the day in the 10th and 11th rounds. She scored 38.85 points on the 10th dive (403B - Inward 1 1/2 Somersault Pike) and followed that up by scoring 39.60 points on her final attempt (404C - Inward 2 Somersault Tuck).
 
The top 16 divers during the prelim round advanced to either the consolation or championship finals on Wednesday evening. Ariana Khan of Emory University was the national champion in teh event after scoring 478.40 points during the finals.
 
Russell will be back in action for the 1-meter diving, which is slated to start at 12:45 p.m. EDT on Friday, March 17.
