MINNEAPOLIS – The First Chance Meet hosted by the University of Minnesota got underway with six events on Friday. The unscored competition serves as the final meet of the season for seven members of the Carleton College women's swimming & diving team, while the rest of the roster uses the weekend as a final tune-up for the upcoming MIAC Championships.
This year's meet includes some of the top Division III teams in the region plus two NCAA Division I programs. Competition on Friday included: the 100-yard butterfly, 100-yard breaststroke, 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard IM, 50-yard freestyle, and 400-yard medley relay
The taper group for this meet included:
Lillian Berets (Sr./Boulder, Colo./Fairview),
Lindsay Boettiger (Sr./Austin, Texas/Westlake),
Anna Halladay (Sr./Burlington, Vt./Burlington),
Kristin Hultgren (Sr./Centennial, Colo./Cherry Creek),
Abby Marks (So./Orleans, Mass./Nauset Regional),
Jivana Nagpal (So./Oakland, Calif./Bentley), and
Alison Trackman (Fy./Bethesda, Md./BethesdaChevy Chase).
Berets (6.0 seconds) and Halladay (4.04 seconds) both dropped significant time off their season-best times in the 100 butterfly as they finished in 1:07.54 and 1:08.62, respectively.
Trackman improved more than 5.6 seconds from her seed time, and Nagpal dropped more than 14 seconds as they finished the 500 freestyle in 5:51.29 and 6:05.91, respectively.
Marks and Halladay turned in season-best times in the 200 IM, touching the wall at 2:29.49 and 2:31.56, respectively.
Trackman (27.51), Boettinger (29.29), Berets (28.55), and Hultgren (32.34) all set season bests in the 50-yard freestyle and did so by an average of 0.99 seconds.
Marks, Halladay, and Nagpal teamed with
Isabelle Riley (So./Singapore/Singapore American School) in the 400 medley relay, posting a time of 4:31.89 to take eighth place. Boettinger,
Jenna Drummond (So./East Greenbush, N.Y./Emma Willard), Berets, and Trackman clocked a time of 4:37.21 in the same event.
Carleton's non-tapered group turned in a handful of top-10 swims as well:

Caroline Crampton (So./Plymouth, Mass./Sturgis) placed eighth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:03.29.

Elizabeth Chatard (So./San Anselmo, Calif./Sir Francis Drake) finished fifth with her time of 1:10.72 in the 100-yardbreaststroke.
• Crampton and Drummond took seventh and ninth, respectively, in the 500 freestyle with season-best times of 5:31.87 and 5:34.09.
Up Next for the Knights
Session II is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. Saturday with the 400 IM, 200 free, 100 back, and 1650 free. The weekend concludes Saturday night with Session III at 6 p.m. which features the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, and 400 free relay. Additionally, Carleton's divers will take part in the Dodd Road Invite beginning at 11 a.m. at Thorpe Pool.
