KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Senior defender Justin Crawmer became the latest Carleton College men's soccer player to collect All-America recognition. He was a first-team pick by the United Soccer Coaches Association.
 
Carleton men's soccer has now had six players collect a total of nine All-America awards (see chart below). Crawmer is the only one of that group voted First Team All-America.
 
"This honor is so well deserved and earned by Justin," said Carleton head coach Bob Carlson. "To think about where he was 9 months after ACL surgery, to come back and put together the season that he did individually is remarkable. To come back from major reconstructive surgery and have an All-American year is simply amazing. He is one of the best athletes we've ever had here at Carleton, not just in our program.
 
"This is also an award for his team. (Goalkeeper) Daniel Linder and (defenders) Alexander Grosse, Riaz Kelly, Collin Kroll, and Josh Zebrack all share in this award. They elevated Justin's level of play as much as he did theirs."
 
The United Soccer Coaches recognized a total of 50 All-Americans: 15 on the first team, 17 on the second team, and 18 on the third team.
 
Crawmer is 1 of 4 defenders named to the All-America First team. He missed most of the 2022 campaign with a knee injury but returned to action this fall. He started all 20 games for the Knights and was voted the 2023 MIAC Defender of the Year by the conference coaches. Crawmer scored 3 goals and added 7 assists for 13 points from his outside back position. His point total led the 14 defenders to earn All-America recognition this fall, while his goal and assist totals were second.
 
Crawmer played a key part in the Knights leading D-III with .235 goals against average and .765 shutout percentage during regular season. Carleton surrendered only 6 goals all year (including two rounds of the NCAA Championships), the fewest in D-III in 2023 and the fewest in program history. In six games against teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament, the Knights yielded only three total goals.
 
He aided an offense that scored 52 goals this fall, tied for 20th in NCAA Division III during the regular season. The 52 goals marked the second-highest scoring output in program history.
 
"Justin and (fellow co-captain) Trevor Jones have been phenomenal leaders for our program," said Carlson, "and they are going to go on and do astonishing things and make the world a better place."
 
Carleton Women's Soccer also had two players named All-Americans. Junior defender Piper Dean was a first-team pick while senior midfielder Cate Patterson was second-team selection. This marks the first time in school history that both soccer programs had an All-American in the same season. Carleton is 1 of only 6 schools to have an All-American on both its men's and women's teams in 2023 with Messiah University the only other one to have a first teamer on both its programs.
