Box Score ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Carleton College men's tennis team began the season with a 9-0 victory over Hamline University.
Rookies
Zach Leslie (Fy./Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn),
Cooper Kline (Fy./Los Angeles, Calif./The Buckley School), and
Jack Rivkin (Fy./Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) started their collegiate careers with victories. In fact, the trio went 5-0 overall on Sunday.
Leslie and
Ozzie Viswanathan (Sr./Lincolnshire, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) secured an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Kline and
Aniketh Vipparla (Jr./Cary, N.C./Green Hope) battled their way to an 8-6 decision at the second slot. Rivkin and
Noah Mueller (Sr./Dubai, UAE/German International School Dubai) cruised to an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
Viswanathan blanked his opponent at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0. It was his first collegiate match atop the singles lineup.
"Impressive performance from Ozzie at one singles," said Carleton head coach
Stephan Zweifel. "I could tell that he decided to activate his DRS in order to get another 10 mph out of his serve."
Meanwhile,
Will Stepanski (Sr./Villa Park, Calif./Villa Park) prevailed by the same score at the sixth spot.
Vipparla prevailed 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2 singles in the day's closest match. Kline (won 6-2, 6-1), Mueller (won 6-0, 6-1), and Rivkin (won 6-1, 6-3) made quick work of the opposition at the third through fifth spots, respectively, in the order.
