MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Carleton College men's tennis team began the 2026-27 campaign with a 6-1 victory at Concordia College-Moorhead.
The Knights (1-0, 1-0 MIAC) dropped the doubles point but came back to sweep the singles contests, including win by four first-year players.
"We were knocked off our feet a little after losing the doubles point," said Carleton head coach
Stephan Zweifel, "but like the emperor penguin, we knew that flight was not an option. Fight was the only item on the menu for singles, and the team responded accordingly."
Rookies
Everett Rosenbloom and
Keane Dougherty began their collegiate careers with a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles, but Concordia (0-3, 0-1 MIAC) prevailed 7-5 at No. 1 doubles and 6-3 at No. 2 doubles to secure the best-of-three point.
The Knights shook off the setback and swept all six singles matches in straight sets.
Baiyun Jing cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory atop the lineup. First-year
Taku Coulston added a 6-2, 6-1 win at the second slot.
Newcomer
James Scallan contributed a 6-0, 6-1 result at No. 3 singles, while sophomore
Yihe Zhang picked up a 6-1, 6-2 result.
Rosenbloom notched a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles, and Dougherty completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-3 result at the sixth slot.
Up Next for the Knights
Carleton will head to the ITA Midwest Regional Oct. 2-5 in St. Peter, Minn.
