SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Carleton College men's cross country team began the 2022 season with a 10th-place showing at the Augie Invite. The Knights were the top NCAA Division III squad in the 32-team field that included four NCAA Division I programs and 10 from NCAA Division II.
The four-mile race began at 9:00 p.m. and was contested under the lights at Yankton Trail Park. South Dakota State, a regionally-ranked D-II program captured the team title with 24 points, followed by regionally-ranked D-II programs from host Augustana University (80 points), Nebraska-Kearney (94 points) and Sioux Falls (113). Carleton, ranked No. 7 in the Central Region of Division III totaled 296 points and finished ahead of five D-II programs.
Henry Bowman (Sr./Lafayette, Colo./Centaurus) was Carleton's top finisher, placing 26th of 323 runners at 20:01.73. Classmate
Elijah Jones (Sr./Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) crossed the line 42nd overall at 20:23.67.
Newcomers
Roy Llewellyn (Fy./Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) and
Indy Lyness (Fy./Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) were next across the line for the Knights, clocking times of 20:39.50 and 20:55.55, respectively, to place 65th and 89th.
Ben Aoki-Sherwood (Sr./Robbinsdale, Minn./Armstrong) rounded out the scoring by placing 120th at 21:22.34.
Josh Meier (So./Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) and
Reese Anderson (Fy./Frontenac, Minn./Lake City) also raced for the Carleton, finishing 165th and 183rd at 21:55.57 and 22:08.72, respectively.
Up Next for the Knights
Carleton will race at the Hamline Invitational next Friday, Sept. 9 at 6:15 p.m. That meet will be held at the Highland 9-hole golf course, site of the 2022 MIAC Championships in late October.
