Knights, eight players score ITA academic honors

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Carleton College men's tennis program earned the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) All-Academic Team Award for the 19th time since 2002, easily the highest figure among MIAC schools. Additionally, eight individuals were named ITA Scholar-Athletes, marking the 10th consecutive year with at least five Knights taking home that accolade.

In recognition of outstanding academic achievement during the 2021-22 season, the ITA All-Academic Team Award is given to programs with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or higher.

Since 2002, Carleton has earned the ITA's All-Academic Team honor 19 times compared to 48 combined occasions for the other nine MIAC men's programs over that same span. Only one other conference squad has won more than 10 awards over that time period.

To be recognized as a Scholar-Athlete, players must have at least a 3.50 GPA for the current academic year. This year's individual honorees include: Tate Fuller '25 (Seattle, Wash./Lakeside); Yuv Kataria '24 (Kolkata, India/Weil Academy & College Prep); Bence Kisgeczi '22 (Budapest, Hungary/Szent István); Noah Mueller '23 (Dubai, UAE/German International School Dubai); Tarm Rojanasoonthon '25 (Bangkok, Thailand/Chulalongkorn); Xander Roti '22 (Locust Valley, N.Y./Friends Academy); Aswath Viswanathan '23 (Lincolnshire, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson); and William Walsh '22 (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights).

Mueller and Walsh earned Scholar-Athlete honors three times at Carleton, while this marks the second individual accolade for Kataria, Kisgeczi, and Viswanathan.

With the Carleton women also garnering the ITA's All-Academic Team Award, this marked the 11th straight year and the 19th time over the last 21 seasons that both Knight tennis programs captured the ITA All-Academic Team Award. Over that same span, the other dozen MIAC schools won the award for both men's and women's tennis in the same year only 33 combined times.
