HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The Carleton College men's tennis team improved to 8-1 on the season with a victory over Augustana College (Ill.) by the same score. Yuv Kataria (So./Kolkata, India/Weil Academy & College Prep), Aniketh Vipparla (So./Cary, N.C./Green Hope), and Aswath Viswanathan (Jr./Lincolnshire, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) each prevailed in both singles and doubles for the Knights.
 
Carleton held a 2-1 lead after doubles, with the Vikings winning at No. 1 doubles in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (8-6). At the No. 2 slot, Kataria and Vipparla prevailed by an 8-6 tally, while Viswanathan and William Walsh (Sr./San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) cruised to an 8-1 win at the third spot.
 
Carleton then swept the six singles matches.
 
Tarm Rojanasoonthon (Fy./Bangkok, Thailand/Chulalongkorn), who earlier in the day was tabbed the MIAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week (March 14-20) for the third time this season, improved to 7-0 at No. 1 singles this year with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 victory atop the lineup.
 
Kataria blanked his opponent at No. 2 singles, while Xander Roti (Sr./Locust Valley, N.Y./Friends Academy), Tate Fuller (Fy./Seattle, Wash./Lakeside), and Viswanathan also notched straight-set wins.
 
Vipparla rallied from down a set and a break to claim the victory at No. 6 singles 2-6, 6-3, 10-7.
 
"Another gutsy performance by Aniketh today," said Carleton head coach Stephan Zweifel. "He plays tennis by one simple rule - as long as you have some popcorn, a pigeon will always take notice of you."
 
Up Next for the Knights
After a day off, Carleton will return to the court for matches against Allegheny College (9:30 a.m. ET) and Union College (2:30 p.m. ET) on Wednesday, March 23.
