Knights tame Gators, 8-1, for fifth straight win

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.—The Carleton College men's tennis team got off to a strong start in doubles and rolled to an 8-1 victory over Allegheny College. The Knights second match of the day, an afternoon contest against Union College (N.Y.) was rained out. Carleton is now 3-0 on its spring break trip and 9-1 on the season.
 
The Knights swept the three doubles contests for the first time on this year's visit to South Carolina.
 
Tarm Rojanasoonthon (Fy./Bangkok, Thailand/Chulalongkorn) and Tate Fuller (Fy./Seattle, Wash./Lakeside) notched their first victory at No. 1 doubles, prevailing 8-5. Aswath Viswanathan (Jr./Lincolnshire, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) and William Walsh (Sr./San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) moved up to the second slot and registered an 8-4 win, while Noah Mueller (Jr./Dubai, UAE/German International School Dubai) and Aniketh Vipparla (So./Cary, N.C./Green Hope) paired up for the first time in their collegiate careers and won 8-6.
 
Carleton won five singles matches, four of them in straight sets.
 
Fuller shutout his foe at No. 2 singles, while Viswantahan added a 6-2, 6-2 victory in his first time at the No. 3 slot for the Knights. Bence Kisgeczi (Sr./Budapest, Hungary/Szent István) added a 6-2, 6-3 triumph at No. 4 singles, and Will Stepanski (Jr./Villa Park, Calif./Villa Park) improved his collegiate dual match singles mark to 15-1 with a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
 
Xander Roti (Sr./Locust Valley, N.Y./Friends Academy) moved to 9-0 in singles during 2022 as he dug deep to pull out the 6-4, 1-6, 10-7 win at No. 1 singles.
 
"We had a tremendous battle at No. 1 singles today," said Carleton head coach Stephan Zweifel. "A lot of websites use cookies to improve performance, so does Xander."
