Stephan Zweifel

Stephan Zweifel, four-time MIAC Men’s Tennis Coach of the Year (2002, 2003, 2004, and 2008), joined the tennis coaching staff shortly after arriving at Carleton in 1991 and has served as head coach since 1997. He has guided the Knights to two of the three NCAA Championship appearances in school history (2004 and 2010). He coached Leo Vithoontien to an NCAA Singles Championship in 2021, as well as coaching Vithoontien and Xander Zuczek to the NCAA Doubles Championship that same year.

In 2010, he was named the Central Region Coach of the Year by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) and he was one of four finalists for National Coach of the Year. Since the 2001-02 campaign, Zweifel has posted a 365-109 record (.770). Under his direction, the Knights have totaled 15+ wins fifteen times over the last 20 seasons.

A professor in the biology department at Carleton, Zweifel earned a B.S. in Biology from the University of California–Davis, and a Ph.D. in molecular genetics from the University of Washington in Seattle.
