MINNEAPOLIS -- Day one of the Minnesota Challenge saw the Carleton College women's swimming & diving team compete in five events on Friday evening: the 100-yard butterfly, 100-yard breaststroke, 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard IM, and 50-yard freestyle. This year's meet included two NCAA Division I programs as well as some of the top D-III programs in the Upper Midwest.
The unscored, two-day competition serves as the final meet of the season for some squad members, while the rest of the roster uses the weekend as a final tune-up for the upcoming MIAC Championships to be held on Feb. 16-19.
In the evening's first event, the 100 fly,
Alison Cameron (Sr./Reno, Nev./Reno) finished fourth among D-III racers and eighth overall with a season-best time of 1:00.62.
Claire Neid (Sr./Denver, Colo./George Washington) was Carleton's top finisher in the 100 breast, placing 14th overall after registering a season-best time of 1:13.88.
Cameron finished 12th overall in the 500 free at 5:30.81, one spot ahead of
Aleia Johnson (So./Rochester, Minn./Mayo) at 5:34.53.
Jenna Drummond (Fy./East Greenbush, N.Y./Emma Willard) clocked a time of 2:22.39 in the 200 IM, edging teammate
Elizabeth Chatard (Fy./San Anselmo, Calif./Archie Williams), who touched the wall at 2:22.70, for ninth place. Once again both Knights posted season-best times.
Neid tied for 22nd in the final race of the session, the 50 free, with her time of 22.90, which was more than 2.6 seconds faster than her previous season best.
