ROCHESTER, Minn. – The Carleton College opened a weekend of matches against regional opponents with a 7-2 triumph over Grinnell College at Rochester Tennis Connection.
 
Tarm Rojanasoonthon (Fy./Bangkok, Thailand/Chulalongkorn), Aswath Viswanathan (Jr./Lincolnshire, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson), and William Walsh (Sr./San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) won in both in singles and doubles, but the day's most dominant performance was turned in by Xander Roti (Sr./Locust Valley, N.Y./Friends Academy), who notched a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.
 
"When Xander is playing his top game, he reminds me of the internet browser on my office computer," said Carleton head coach Stephan Zweifel, "10 open tabs, and I can't tell where the music is coming from."
 
The afternoon began with a sweep of doubles by the Knights. Walsh and Rojanasoonthon won atop the lineup, 8-3, followed by an 8-4 triumph by Yuv Kataria (So./Kolkata, India/Weil Academy & College Prep) and Aniketh Vipparla (So./Cary, N.C./Green Hope) at the second slot.
 
Viswanathan and Tate Fuller (Fy./Seattle, Wash./Lakeside) prevailed in a tiebreaker to win at No. 3 doubles, 8-7 (7-1).
 
"Our doubles teams played with the focus of an alligator stalking an unaware toy poodle," Zweifel said.
 
Rojanasoonthon nearly duplicated Roti's effort in singles as he notched a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles. Viswanathan also prevailed in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-4.
 
The other three singles matches required tiebreakers. Walsh won his match 7-6, 7-5 (7-3), while the Pioneers picked up their two points in the team standings by winning super tiebreakers.

Carleton will be right back in the same location to face Carthage College at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 20.
