Knights still perfect in MIAC play, take down Bethel 1-0

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - Thanks to a second half long-range rocket from Cate Patterson (Sr./Racine, Wis./Prairie School), the Carleton College women's soccer team earned its 10th victory of the season and retained its undefeated conference record with a 1-0 victory at Bethel University.

"We struggled to get going today, but had a great second half," sid Carleton head coach Jessica Mueller. "Cate's shot and goal was one for the ages, absolutely incredible. Our veterans continue to put so much of themselves into this team, day in and day out. We continue to see results due to their leadership."

In the first half, the Knights (10-1-0, 6-0-0 MIAC) outpaced the Royals (3-5-3, 1-3-2 MIAC). The visitors fired six shots, including four on net, compared to only one for the hosts. However, neither side converted on their respective opportunities during the opening 45 minutes of play, and the score was nodded up at zeroes entering intermission.

The second half was more of the same, as Carleton registered eight shots in the opening 20 minutes of the period without scoring. On the ninth, the Knights struck gold. Rainey Tilley (Sr./South Pasadena, Calif./South Pasadena) found Patterson in the midfield, and the senior midfielder worked her magic with a few touches before blasting the ball into the upper left corner from about 30 yards out.

Carleton won the final shot tally 17-2, with a pair of Kelsey Bergan attempts off target the only danger the Knights faced all day defensively. Tilley and Patterson, as well as Casey MacVeagh (Jr./Thetford, Vt./Thetford Academy) and Saheli Patel (So./Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest) each had three or more shots in the contest.

Keya Mookencherry (So./Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) earned her ninth victory and fourth clean sheet of the campaign between the goalposts.

Carleton has now won eight straight games, six consecutive conference games, and their 18 points in the MIAC ladder place them five points above second-place St. Catherine University.
