ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The Carleton College women's basketball team led by as many as nine points in the second half, but a huge fourth quarter by College of Saint Benedict propelled the hosts to a 67-52 victory at Claire Lynch Hall. The game was originally scheduled for December 15 but had been postponed due to poor weather conditions.
Four players finished in double figures for the Knights (3-6, 2-4 MIAC), who led 41-32 with four minutes remaining in the third quarter. The Bennies 7-2, 4-2 MIAC) trimmed the deficit to four points by the end of the period and then outscored Carleton 28-9 over the final stanza.
Saint Benedict was 9-of-16 (56 percent) from the field over the final 10 minutes, including 6-of-8 from beyond the arc after going only 3-of-15 from the same location over the first 30 minutes.
Jill Yanai (Sr./Glendale, Calif./Glendale) converted in the lane to give Carleton a 50-49 lead with 5:18 remaining in the game, but Saint Benedict closed the contest with an 18-2 run.
Yanai led the Knights with 14 points, with
Jasmine Choi (So./Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo) chipping in a dozen points.
Emma Henry (So./Prior Lake, Minn./Academy of Holy Angels) and
Isabelle Henry (So./Prior Lake, Minn./Academy of Holy Angels) added 10 points apiece for the visitors.
Carla Meyer paced Saint Benedict with 19 points, including eight during the final period.
Carleton shot 30 percent in the game and 25 percent during the final period while the Bennies made 41 percent of their field goal attempts on the evening.
