INTERNSHIP/EXTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES DURING MY TIME AS A CARLETON STUDENT:
I worked at the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage (CFCH), Roots Interns, where I worked on education projects in ethnomusicology (the study of cross-cultural music) to enhance interdisciplinary student learning. I also published my first article on their website, which summarized my interview findings with 3 Baul musicians in West Bengal, India. I am currently interning abroad in Cape Town, ZA with Roots Interns, where I am researching the cultural factors influencing participant recruitment and retention for clinical trials in a black township.
 
MY INTERNSHIP/EXTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES ENHANCED MY EXPERIENCE AS A CARLETON STUDENT-ATHLETE BECAUSE…
These experiences (especially in-person)exposes your thoughts, taken from books and secondary sources, to the real world. It makes everything you've learned make sense but also confounds it since it doesn't fit into those "boxes" and "concepts" you learn at Carleton. I've been pushed out of my comfort zones, both professionally, academically, and personally, enriched by my Carleton learning and gives me the confidence to positively contribute to my community and the field.
