Knights sweep Bethel, 9-0

NORTHFIELD, Minn. --  The Carleton College men's tennis team inched closer to securing another postseason berth thanks to a 9-0 victory over visiting Bethel University. Four Knights won in both singles and doubles.

Carleton mixed up two of its doubles combinations and still found success. The pairing of Leo Vithoontien (Sr./Bangkok, Thailand/Bangkok Patana School) and Yuv Kataria (Fy./Kolkata, India/Weil Academy & College Prep) debuted and proved victorious at No. 1 doubles by an 8-3 margin, while William Walsh (Jr./San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) and Noah Mueller (So./Dubai, UAE/German International School Dubai) prevailed by an 8-2 tally in their first attempt at No. 3 doubles.

Aswath Viswanathan (So./Lincolnshire, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) and Aniketh Vipparla (Fy./Cary, N.C./Green Hope) were the only holdovers from earlier this season, and the duo improved to 5-0 on the year with a gritty comeback that secured an 8-7 (5) triumph at No. 2 doubles.

"Ozzie and Aniketh have the determination of a pair of squirrels trying to break into a bird feeder," said Carleton head coach Stephan Zweifel.

Upon moving to singles play, the Knights maintained their high-level of play and won all six matches in straight sets.

Vithoontien remained undefeated this season with his 6-2, 6-0 victory atop the lineup. Xander Roti (Jr./Locust Valley, N.Y./Friends Academy) returned to the win column with his 6-3, 6-2 result at No. 2 singles.

Kataria won at his third different slot in the lineup, prevailing 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 singles, with Mueller capturing a 6-2, 7-6 (2) result at the fourth slot.

At No. 5 sinlges, Viswanathan cruised to the 6-1, 6-2 victory, and Will Stepanski (So./Villa Park, Calif./Villa Park) won in similar fashion—6-0, 6-3—at the final spot.
