NORTHFIELD, Minn. –
Jasmine Choi (So./Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo) poured in a career-best 19 points, but the Carleton College women's basketball team absorbed a 71-55 loss to visiting St. Catherine University on Wednesday evening.
St. Catherine (4-4, 3-2 MIAC) controlled the interior, finishing with a 44-26 edge in points in the paint. While both teams had a similar number of offensive rebounds, the Wildcats took better advantage of the extra opportunities and posted a 22-11 margin in second-chance points.
St. Kate's broke a 13-13 tie with 1:03 remaining in the first quarter and kept the lead the rest of the evening.
Choi converted a layup to pull Carleton (2-4, 1-3 MIAC) within 51-48 early in the fourth quarter, but the Wildcats answered with a mini 7-0 run and opened up a double-digit lead that the visitors maintained for much of the balance of the contest.
Choi was 9-of-13 from the field and added four rebounds and two steals, while
Jill Yanai (Sr./Glendale, Calif./Glendale) chipped in 13 points to go along with a game-high four assists and three steals.
Margie Clauss (So./Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn) added a career-best eight points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Aiana Whitfield (Jr./Richfield, Minn./Benilde St.-Margaret's) contributed nine points, three rebounds, and three steals, while sisters
Isabelle Henry (So./Prior Lake, Minn./Academy of Holy Angels) and
Emma Henry (So./Prior Lake, Minn./Academy of Holy Angels) each drained a 3-pointer to account for the other six Carleton points.
St. Catherine shot 47 percent overall and 38 percent from beyond the arc, while Carleton connected at a 36 percent rate overall and 27 percent from 3-point range.
Sam Orth and Bree Glynn had double-doubles for the visitors. Orth finished with season highs of 18 points and 12 rebounds as she notched her third career double-double. Meanwhile, Glynn posted her first career double-double by tallying 11 points and 10 boards.
