GRINNELL, Iowa – The Carleton College women's swimming and diving team is third out of nine teams after the first day of racing at the Pioneer Classic. Friday's session included five events.
The Knights started the evening with a runner-up result in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Raine Bernhard (Jr./Champaign, Ill./University High School),
Serena Lee (Sr./Muscat, Oman/The American International School of Muscat),
Natalie Lafferty (Sr./Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley), and
Claire Neid (Sr./Denver, Colo./George Washington) combined on a time of 1:43.66.
With a fifth-place time of 5:32.62, which was nine seconds better than her seed time, Lee paced four Knights to finish in the top-10 of the 500-yard freestyle.
Lydia Boyum (Sr./Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) posted a fourth-place result out of 54 finishers in the 200-yard IM, touching the wall at 2:20.16.
Bernhard and Neid paced the Knights in the 50-yard freestyle, clocking times of 25.54 and 25.70 to take sixth and seventh place, respectively, out of 92 competitors.
Friday's swimming concluded with 400-yard medley relay, and the Knights' top quartet took third place as Boyum, Lee,
Elizabeth Chatard (Fy./San Anselmo, Calif./Archie Williams), and
Alison Cameron (Sr./Reno, Nev./Reno) collaborated on a time of 4:12.07.
Day two of the meet is split into two sessions, one at 9:00 a.m. and the other at 5:00 p.m.
