NORTHFIELD, Minn. –
Jill Yanai (Sr./Glendale, Calif./Glendale) tallied a game-high 17 points, but the Carleton College women's basketball team could not overcome a slow start and lost a 77-51 home game to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
The Knights (3-5) struggled early against UWL's stingy defense that entered the day allowing only 49.9 points per game to rank 20th in the country. Yanai scored on the first Carleton possession, but the Knights missed their next eight shots and quickly faced a 15-2 deficit. The Eagles (7-4) maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the contest.
Carleton shot only 31 percent overall and finished 3-for-16 (19 percent) beyond the arc. Meanwhile, UW-La Crosse shot 49 percent for the game and was 8-of-20 beyond the arc (40 percent).
The Eagles shot better than 50 percent in each of the first three quarters, a performance helped by a career game by senior Carly Coulthart, who entered the day 4-for-24 from beyond the arc but proceeded to go 4-for-5 from long range this evening en route to a career-best 16 points. Lauren Milne added 14 points for the visitors, who also saw three other players score at least seven points.
Jasmine Choi (So./Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo) was the other Knight in double figures, turning in another 14-point effort.
Bella Thomas (Fy./Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle) and
Emma Henry (So./Prior Lake, Minn./Academy of Holy Angels) both contributed six points off the bench, with the latter pulling down a team-best five rebounds.
