Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Bettner's late goal earns Knights 1-1 draw at St. Scholastica

DULUTH, Minn.-- A late goal from senior Bella Bettner (Delkalb, Ill.) helped the Carleton College women's soccer team play to a 1-1 tie against host College of St. Scholastica on Saturday afternoon.

Carleton's (7-4-3, 4-4-1 MIAC) offense was hot in the first half, firing 12 shots with seven of those attempts being on goal, while the Saints (3-9-4, 3-4-2 MIAC) had just 5 and 4 of each, respectively, but one of those was a free kick tally from Brea Archer in the 44th minute.

Up 1-0, the St. Scholastica defense seemed to get more stout, only allowing five shots in the second stanza, but in the 77th minute Bettner slipped past the defense and put the equalizer in the back of the net.

The game would remain knotted up, and in the first overtime the Knights added two more shots to their total, but neither team could get any dangerous chances or shots on goal, and the game would end in a draw.

Cate Patterson (Jr./Racine, Wis./Prairie School) and Bettner combined for 11 of the Knights' 21 shots on the afternoon, helping Carleton to finish with a 21-7 lead in shots and a 9-4 lead in shots on goal. They also held a slight 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. Ezra Kucur (Fy./Seattle, Wash./University Prep) made three saves in net.
