Box Score NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The No. 22-ranked Carleton College men's soccer team made the short trek across town to face crosstown rival St. Olaf College, dropping a 3-1 result at Rolf Mellby Field when the Oles scored a pair of late goals.
 
The rivalry had been lopsided as of late, with the Knights (5-3-2, 3-2-0 MIAC) going 7-0-1 in the last eight clashes between the two Northfield squads. The Oles (8-1-1, 4-0-0 MIAC) picked up their first win over Carleton since Nov. 2, 2013.
 
St. Olaf grabbed the initial lead with a 21st-minute goal headed in by Clemente Arcuch Puig off of a corner kick feed. The Knights would answer back quickly thanks to a Tonny Aton (Sr./Nairobi, Kenya/Lukenya) unassisted equalizer just five minutes later.
 
The score remained deadlocked 1-1 at halftime.
 
Carleton had two excellent chances to move in front, but both times St. Olaf goalkeeper Austin Williams bailed out his team. First stopping an opportunity for Aton in the 63rd minute and then rejecting Owen Flanagan (Fy./San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco University) in the 75th minute.
 
Alexei Thomas (Jr./Northwood, United Kingdom/Merchant Taylors School) had five saves in net and made some big plays for the Knights even with the ball moving quickly on the artificial playing surface.
 
In the 82nd minute, Casey McCloskey found home for the Oles with the eventual game-winning goal. The Knights would battle fiercely, putting more numbers into the attack. Justin Crawmer (Jr./Urbandale, Iowa/Waukee) had a 90th minute shot attempt in the box, but it was deflected by a St. Olaf defender, sparking a counter attack that led to a Shea Bechtel insurance goal with three seconds remaining.
