Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Knights win fourth straight, top Saint Mary's 2-0

WINONA, Minn. – Willan Shrock and Hudson Benites scored as the Carleton College men's soccer team secured its fourth straight victory, this one a 2-0 triumph at Saint Mary's University.

The result keeps Carleton (9-4-1, 5-2-0 MIAC) in the hunt for the MIAC's six-team postseason tournament. With three conference games remaining, the Knights are fourth place in the standings. Carleton improved to 5-1 on the road this fall.

Carleton finished the day with a 25-2 advantage in shots and a 13-1 edge in shots on goal. The Knights also took all seven corner kicks in the match.

Shrock's ninth-minute goal set the tone. Matthew Deffo was credited with the assist as he dribbled into the box, drew the defense to him, and slid a pass over to a suddenly open Schrock for a shot into the top of the netting.

Saint Mary's (0-12-2, 0-7-0 MIAC) goalkeeper Bode Jacobsen made several quality saves to keep his team in the match, but Carleton added an insurance goal in the 54th minute. Asher Burt unleashed a laser from the top of the box. Jacobsen stopped that attempt as well as the point-blank follow-up by Oscar Gates, but the second rebound dropped at the feet of Benites, who slotted it home for his first career goal.

Carleton appeared to add goals in both the 83rd and 86th minutes, but in both cases, the offsides flag went up.

Goalkeepers Adam Ouachani and Ethan Saucedo combined on the Knights' sixth shutout of the year.
