WHITEWATER, Wis. –
Abby Loe (Jr./Apple Valley, Minn./Apple Valley) totaled a team-best 26 kills on the day, but the Carleton College volleyball team dropped both matches on the first day of action at the UW-Whitewater Invite.
The evening began with a 3-1 setback against Lakeland College by a 28-26, 18-25, 25-21, 25-14 tally. Loe accumulated 11 kills and 15 digs in posting her eighth career double-double.
Jancyn Appel (Fy./Kansas City, Mo./The Pembroke Hill School) and
Grace Leuchtenberger (Jr./Newton, Mass./Newton South) contributed 10 kills apiece, while
Inger Shelton (So./San Diego, Calif./La Jolla) notched 40 kills, the third-highest total of her career.
Tegan Carlson (So./Benton City, Wash./Kona-Benton City) led the Knights' defense with 17 digs.
In the day's second match, Carleton allowed a 2-0 lead to slip away and lost to Milwaukee School of Engineering in five sets (25-20, 25-22, 16-25, 21-25, 3-15). The Knights hit a combined .243 while claiming the first two sets but connected at a -.038 clip while dropping the final three games.
Loe again paced the offense with 15 kills, but she was the lone Knight to reach double figures. Shelton picked up 29 assists and 14 digs.
Carleton is back on the court for two more matches on Saturday, facing UW-Stout at 10 a.m. and host UW-Whitewater at 12:30 p.m.
